Model Overview:

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the pioneers that ushered in the modern midsize SUV in the early 1990s. Jeep has always wanted the Grand Cherokee to be maneuverable enough for urban duty, roomy enough for family duty, stylish enough to take out on the town and capable enough to tow your toys or shuttle your passengers to a remote campsite. Modern Grand Cherokees are far more refined than the early models, but they're no less versatile.

Unlike most other traditional SUVs, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has always been built using a carlike unibody platform for superior on-road handling. Yet Jeep's strong reputation for off-road prowess is retained, thanks to the Grand Cherokee's advanced four-wheel-drive systems and capable suspension. It's a rare combination of attributes in a modern utility vehicle, as the Jeep is able to venture farther off the beaten path than competing crossover SUVs.

  • Not Happy - 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Just outside warranty period. Had to replace the gear module. It cost $1100.00. I called Jeep, they were very rude. This is my second Jeep, will be my last. I do not recommend Jeep to anyone. They have really gone down hill.

  • Waste of Money - 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Unless you are a mechanic and enjoy to get under the hood, do not buy. CV Boots, electrical, water pump, AC and front mirror all had to be replaces/fixed. Costing a bunch as well asthe headaches of taking it in and not knowing if the mechanic is screwing you over or not. I will never buy a jeep again. Like the other guy, Toyota is the next new car for me.

  • Disgusted In my Jeep - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

My 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited Hemi is a big pile of junk. Ive had nothing but problems with it since buying it in 2008. I had to replace the Starter at 60,000. Fuel Pump at 65,000. Transmission at 77,000. Power Steering Pump and Line at 78,000. 4 new tires at 55,000 miles, battery at 60,000. I feel like the jeep is in the shop more than I have driven it. Very unreliable but have so much stuck into it, feel sick to trade in. Currently my Service 4WD system light came on and I just got it back from getting a new Power Steering Pump. Dealer has been nothing but rude. We will never but another jeep again.

  • Diesel disaster - 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Nice looking and fun to drive, but spends most of its life at the dealer. Check engine light on for most of its short life. Dealer cannot fix emissions problems and my Rejected inspection sticker is running out. Car will be illegal to drive shortly and have no fix. Unbelievable. Avoid this vehicle at all costs!!!

  • Jeep - never again - 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

I have the 4.0 liter, 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. Had 65,000 K when I bought it. Worst car I have ever owned. I am shopping for a replacement now. I have replaced catalytic convertor twice, out again. Cracked exhaust manifold, hoses, radiator, crank shaft sensor (going out again I believe), idle motor also. Have to hit starter 6 to 8 times to connect. I am 64 years old and put 5,000 miles on it a year..so rough treatment is not the excuse.

  • Stay Away: - 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

The worst car that I every bought in my 36 year driving career. I have talked four people out of getting this car already and will continue to do so. Not comfortable, little driver seat that feels like an oversized toddler car seat, dangerous to drive because of limited visibility through side rear windows, steering controls broke three times and the car does not stop quickly in the snow. I almost got into a accident this past winter because the car did not stop and I ran into an intersection. The price for the car is reasonable but you pay for what you get. I have not gotten any positive help from the Chrysler Corporate Office and they only "pass the buck." Stay away!!! Thank you.

  • I wouldnt buy a jeep again - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

I wouldnt buy a jeep again. I bought the car knowing that jeeps arent the most reliable. The car was towed twice, and has been in the shop at least 2 other times. But dont forget, youre buying an American car, and your really buying a suuped up wrangler.

  • In my opinion...... - 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

Granted it is a 96 and with age it will ultimately depreciate as will any other automobile out there. So that being said youd typically want to buy something thats reliable. This car is anything but reliable in my opinion. Its broke down twice in a year. Ive had a series of problems which has cause me numerous headaches. A helpful tip... if anyone is looking to purchase this Jeep I would advise them 100% not to. Spend alittle extra money and purchase a used Nissan Pathfinder. Its an outstanding SUV.

  • Dont buy-transmission problems - 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

Good looking vehicle. Has many mechanical issues. Transmission is crap. Mine went out at 41000 and I had problems getting Chrysler to fix it. There is something horribly wrong when a vehicle has 41000 miles on it and the transmission fails. Dont buy. Cheaply built. I traded for a Honda.

  • Dangerous shifting lever - 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

Test the shifting lever which is electronic, when shifting from park to drive 90% of the time if goes to "N". When shifting from "D to "P" it will stop at "R" and if you are not careful and double check the shifter and try to turn the motor off prior to getting out the car will start moving backwards. The dealer tells me they all operate this way. I have owned many Jeep Cherokee over the years and this will be the last. Not good at all
